Amazon Prime

Pardon my French, but what the fuck is this? And does anyone know what the fate of Super Saver Shipping will be?

I just vowed to do more online shopping, and now Amazon pulls this crap. 79 bucks a year? Puh-lease.

comments

$79 per year? What? It sounded okay up until that point. I utilize super saver shipping all the time, and it usually takes longer than 2 days. But $79? I don't think so. I'll just special order at B&N in town.

Super Saver shipping is still listed on their site. I really hope it isn't something that's going to fade away.

I called them up about it and the chick was totally unhelpful. She was like, "For now, Super Saver Shipping is still being offered, but I can say what's going to happen in the future."

No shit, I could have told myself that.

Heh. Customer service is always so helpful.

Don't use Amazon. I don't - I use Powell's for my wish list and most of my shopping; B&N if I need it asap. Besides, shouldn't book lovers support REAL bookstores?

Just curious - why isn't Amazon a real bookstore? Do you mean a brick & mortar store? Why is that necessarily better?

I can't buy into the idea of supporting a certain kind of vendor. Does it make me a better person because I choose bricks over clicks? They're all in the business of making money, and I'm sure Powell's doesn't give a hoot about me.

In any case, Powell's and Barnes & Noble are both huge corporations. If you wanted to support a real bookstore, Rose, you'd pay full price at your local indie shop.

I have had it with Amazon. I ordered a ton of stuff from them at Christmas and didn't get half of it until after the holiday was over. I ordered it almost a month ahead of time.

Plus, they contributed tons of money to the republican party this past election, so I'm buying blue at Barnes & Noble if my local book shop doesn't have what I need.

it's a feature available to those who want to pay extra for expedited two-day shipping. no-one is forced to pay $79, jeez read the details

Um, Powell's is not a huge corporation like B&N. It is an extremely large *but still local bookstore*. However, the internet ruined Powell's. It used to be great to roam around the store finding all sorts of great books, but once they started selling on the internet, all the good books get shipped away.
