Another One Gone

Wow. We’ve gotten another really good discussion under our belts despite it being derailed twice (Rich and his He-Man Woman Haters Club and me unnecessarily worrying about a broken comment box). And thanks to Do-Hee’s late arrival, it was the first discussion that stretched all the way to Saturday. Kudos to Mary Carmen for choosing Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister and challenging the way we think about fairy tales.

I am so glad everyone enjoyed the book and that we hgad a great discussion. Sorry I have been so quiet, I leave for California in a few days and I am in a last minute tizzy trying to get all my stuff in order.

Thanks for the great participation!

I just wanted to apologize for not participating in the discussion. When I signed up, I thought I had a head start because I just read Confessions... a few months ago, and I'd skim through to refresh. But when Mary C. posted the discussion, I realized I'd been thinking of Maguire's Wicked -- I read both, one after the other, but was getting the content of the two mixed up, and for the life of me, couldn't remember a thing about Confessions. It wasn't until someone mentioned tulips that I was able to remember anything at all about it, and now I'm getting Confessions mixed up with Girl with the Pearl Earring -- the Dutch thing.

And, of course, now I can't find my copy anywhere (though Wicked is still right next to my bed, and I'd be happy to sit over here in the corner having a little discussion with myself about that instead) -- if you haven't read it and liked Confessions, I highly recommend it. I liked it at least twice as much, except for the difficulty keeping the movie visuals out of my head, and (not really a spoiler here, though I don't really think I'm giving anything away since everyone has seen Wizard of Oz, right?) knowing that she's going to die at the end was distracting while reading.

But you had a fine discussion without me, and I promise I will be better prepared next month ;)

Greetings book bloggers, sorry I have been more absent than present, but good things have been happening, mainly the interviewing for, getting hired and starting a new and so far wonderful job. The past three weeks I have actually come home from work feeling refreshed rather than the usual wrinkled dishrag.

I enjoyed reading the discussion of Confessions, and of course was alternately intrigued, enraged, titilated, then cautioned to take the whole feminism "debate" elsewhere... If anyone's interested in a feminist reading list, let me know.

Hope to join in for Canticle, best, Kathy

Gwen and Kathy, don't worry much about not participating. Stuff happens.

Kathy, I only booted the feminist debate because it didn't have anything to do with Confessions. However, there will be some serious woman talk in upcoming discussions that will work Rich in to a literal frenzy.
