Good-Bye John Harwood, Hola Gabriel Garcia Marquez

I’m sure all the participants in our discussion of The Ghost Writer would agree that it has been a good one. The novel has a complicated plot structure that discusses well since we were able to help each other figure out what happened when and who did what to whom. A great book club choice, Daisy!

For future discussions, I changed the way the homepage’s left sidebar looks so everyone would have access to both new and used copies of the books. I also added links to first editions and signed copies in case that’s your thing.

As of right now, there are six copies of Chronicle of a Death Foretold signed by Gabriel García Márquez available on abebooks.com. The prices range from $450 to $1,000. Whoa! I realize he’s a Nobel laureate and won’t be signing too many more books since he’s nearly 80 years old, but damn. That’s a lot of money for an autograph.

In contrast, Harwood’s signature is currently going for a paltry $35 to $45. He’s a good writer. The Ghost Writer is his first book. Anyone else seeing an investment opportunity here?

Wow, great! I have two Nobel prize winners in my signed book collection. Good to know they will actually be worth something, sometime. Not that I intend to sell them. I love my books. Even more so when they're signed:)

yeah, i noticed that feature when i first visited abebooks. it's really cool.

p.s.--mary, i just wanted to say that i like what you've done recently with bookblog. this place looked cool before. i didn't think it needed anything. but what you've added is really interesting!

I have an autographed copy of Norm Abram's Mostly Shaker from the New Yankee Workshop. I wonder if he has a shot at winning the Nobel. ;)
