Monday Book

Want to post something. Can't come up with anything. So, just this...

My current book is Dearly Devoted Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. What are you reading?

That one doesn't appeal to me. I have just finished a very good detective novel, though, The Advesary by Michael Walters. It is the second in a series, so if you can try the first, The Shadow Walker, I recommend it. It is set "on the edge of the world" in Mongolia. Wonderful east meets west, soviet meets capitalism, nomads meet modern city, background for a rather good crime plot, plus good characterisation. And so easy to read. (useful for those exhausted train journeys on the way back from work, when one is in danger of dozing off and missing the stop).

I'm suffering through Pride and Prejudice.

I just finished reading Dan Simmons' The Crook Factory. Good book!

Short stories by Julio Cortazar

I have read both of them, love em and dig the series on Show time

Right now, i'm reading "Without Remorse" by "Tom Clancy." The main character, John Kelly, also kills people - because it's his job and because he wants to give justice to Pam's untimely death.

Haven't had a chance yet to get "Dearly Devoted Dexter" but Wikipedia's summary and Amazon's review already triggers my curiosity. I'll read the book once I get the chance.

Just started Turgenev's "First Love" (from the newly-issued Art of the Novella series, by Melville House Publishing). So far, so good.

I zipped through "Ides of March" by Thornton Wilder and really, really enjoyed it. Now I'm on Gilbert Sorrention's "Mulligan Stew" and Patricia A. McKillip's "Od Magic".

I'm reading "The Sunrise Lands" by S. M. Stirling. It's #4 in a post-apocalyptic series, and they're really good!

I'm reading "Julie & Julia" by Julie Powell. Great to read after zipping through Julia Child's "My Life in France.
